Background of the Study
The integration of digital technologies in healthcare has become a global trend, significantly impacting how care is delivered. Digital healthcare transformation includes the use of electronic health records (EHRs), telemedicine, mobile health apps, and AI-based diagnostic tools to improve healthcare delivery (Tijani & Adebayo, 2023). Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Gombe, like many other healthcare institutions, is transitioning to a more digitalized healthcare environment to enhance patient care and streamline administrative processes. However, the success of this transformation depends largely on the readiness of healthcare professionals, particularly nurses, to adapt to these technological changes (Aminu & Garba, 2024).
Nurses play a critical role in implementing and utilizing digital healthcare tools to improve patient outcomes. However, their readiness to embrace digital transformation is often influenced by factors such as training, technological infrastructure, and organizational support. This study will assess nurses' readiness for the digital healthcare transformation at FMC Gombe, focusing on their knowledge, attitudes, and willingness to adopt digital tools in their practice.
Statement of the Problem
Although digital healthcare has the potential to improve patient care, the adoption of digital tools by nurses at FMC Gombe remains a challenge. Many nurses are unfamiliar with digital healthcare technologies or face barriers such as insufficient training, inadequate infrastructure, and resistance to change. As a result, the effective implementation of digital healthcare solutions is hampered. This study aims to examine the factors influencing nurses' readiness for digital healthcare transformation at FMC Gombe.
Objectives of the Study
1. To assess the readiness of nurses at FMC Gombe for digital healthcare transformation.
2. To evaluate the knowledge and attitudes of nurses towards digital healthcare tools and technologies.
3. To identify the barriers to nurses' adoption of digital healthcare technologies at FMC Gombe.
Research Questions
1. What is the level of readiness among nurses at FMC Gombe for digital healthcare transformation?
2. What knowledge and attitudes do nurses at FMC Gombe have regarding digital healthcare tools?
3. What are the key barriers preventing nurses at FMC Gombe from fully adopting digital healthcare technologies?
Research Hypotheses
1. Nurses at FMC Gombe have a moderate to high level of readiness for digital healthcare transformation.
2. Nurses' knowledge and attitudes significantly influence their adoption of digital healthcare tools at FMC Gombe.
3. Lack of training and inadequate technological infrastructure are significant barriers to the adoption of digital healthcare technologies among nurses at FMC Gombe.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on nurses working at FMC Gombe and will not include other healthcare professionals or institutions. The study's limitations include potential biases in self-reported data and the limited scope of digital tools currently available at FMC Gombe.
